Keys Rolls Into Holidays With No. 1 Hits

December 20, 2007

As the Christmas holiday approaches, Alicia Keys is in control of the Billboard Hot 100 and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs charts with “No One,” which is No. 1 on those tallies for a fifth and tenth week, respectively. This week’s charts are unpublished in Billboard but are available on Billboard.com and Billboard.biz.

However, Keys is in position to dethrone herself on both charts before long with “Like You’ll Never See Me Again.” That cut inches up 3-2 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and 19-13 on the Hot 100.

Flo-Rida’s “Low” featuring T-Pain is the Hot 100’s fastest-growing track at radio, and trades places 3-2 with Timbaland’s “Apologize” featuring OneRepublic. Chris Brown’s “Kiss Kiss” featuring T-Pain holds at No. 4, as does Fergie’s “Clumsy” at No. 5 and Colbie Caillat’s “Bubbly” at No. 6.

The Hot 100’s top tier is rounded out by Finger Eleven’s “Paralyzer,” up to a new high with an 8-7 move, Jordin Sparks’ “Tattoo” (10-8), Rihanna’s “Hate That I Love You” featuring Ne-Yo (7-9) and Kanye West’s “Good Life” featuring T-Pain (9-10).

Sara Bareilles’ “Love Song” rockets 72-16 on the Hot 100 and 32-5 on Hot Digital Songs, thanks to digital sales of 74,000 copies. Bareilles appears in a new Rhapsody TV commercial in which she performs the song. The Hot 100’s top debut is Jack Johnson’s “If I Had Eyes” at No. 63.

Taylor Swift’s “Our Song” reigns for a second week on Hot Country Songs, where the top debut is Garth Brooks’ cover of Huey Lewis & the News’ “Workin’ for a Livin’” at No. 50. The song features Lewis himself.

The Foo Fighters’ “The Pretender” begins an 18th week at No. 1 on the Modern Rock chart, extending a longevity record it set last week. Seether’s “Fake It” starts a seventh week at No. 1 on the Mainstream Rock roundup.

R. Kelly Escapes Arrest

December 20, 2007

According to the Associated Press, R. Kelly appeared in court in his hometown of Chicago at 9 a.m. today.

Judge Vincent Gaughan entered a warrant for Kelly’s arrest that would have been effective today had he not appeared this morning, as ordered.

Gaughan resorted to the warrant after Kelly missed a scheduled appearance yesterday in his child pornography case.

One of Kelly’s defense lawyers, Ed Genson, said the singer was delayed by weather in Sacramento, then was further slowed after Kelly’s tour bus was pulled over by police in Utah, who determined from the bus log that the driver had not rested enough.

Kelly is currently embroiled in an ongoing battle against child pornography charges, with prosecutors alleging he videotaped sexual acts with a minor. Kelly has pleaded not guilty.

The judge will likely set a trial date during today’s hearing.
