The Next Generation Of Leaders Town Hall Meeting
There are limited activities and alternatives to include youth and young adults, particularly, urban underserved, low-income and at-risk (at-potential) youth and young adults throughout the United States that foster leadership development, mentorship and a pathway to success. Whether it’s in sports, school politics, social clubs or academics, young people are also constantly in a race trying to edge out the competition and prevail as the ‘leader of the pack’. Although we teach them to win, are we really instilling in them the required resources and helping them gain the needed requirements and skills it takes to be a true leader? SCREAM Star Entertainment (SSE) in association with the Scream Tour joined forces with various civic and social groups and government leaders across the country to help shape the next generation of leaders by introducing the Next Generation of Leaders Teen Town Hall Meetings (NXGTTHM) piloted in four U.S. cities in 2011 with an expansion to eight cities in 2012.
(NXGTTHM) mission is to engage youth and young adults throughout the country to help prepare them to be tomorrow’s leaders. Celebrities, experts, elected officials, civic and community organizations, groups, institutions and young people come together around the platform of leadership to address the societal ills that ravage communities and create barriers for disconnected youth and young adults throughout the United States, particularly in urban underserved and low-income areas.
With the guidance of mentors, experts and established leaders, young people are introduced to 12 “Codes of Leadership” (See Attachment A) that outline the characteristics of a leader. Artists, panelists and audience members expound upon the leadership characteristics in a town hall setting where dialogue is not only encouraged, but facilitated and captured for future use through different media and local post-event programming opportunities established by local community partners.
